Watch Now

I had a friendly surprise waiting for me when I visited Netflix this weekend. A new tab with the inviting name "Watch Now".
.

At last I heard Netflix had postponed its streaming movie service indefinitely. Which just goes to show how distracted I've been since there's been lots of news and lawsuits with Blockbuster since then.

I'm happy to get streaming movies to my PC as part of my subscription. Imagine watching a favorite film in an airport lobby or your hotel room or cafe - well, that is if you can get free wifi at like some places

I've given the service a brief try (on IE 7, no Firefox support - boo!) - choosing to watch Game 6 (written by Don DeLillo, sound track by Yo La Tengo) because it was in my queue. I don't know if it was the service or the original film quality but the experience definitely had reduced quality.

I was a bit concerned about the "Suggestions For You" list. Do they really think I want to watch "Sherrybaby" and "Amadeus"? I was relieved to see a screen shot on Gizmodo that confirms their staff also was recommend those same films. So I guess I get to keep my geek cred.
